History

Our Story

We did not start out building railings. Our parent company, Vista Railing Systems Inc., opened its doors in 1974 as a wood remanufacturing and woodturning plant, and we built our name there long before aluminum became our specialty. From the beginning, we set out to be the highest-quality woodturning and remanufacturing operation in the industry, and we were the first in our space to earn FSC certification, a marker of responsible material sourcing that shaped how we still think about manufacturing today.

From Woodturning to Aluminum Innovation

Markets change, and so have we. As tastes shifted away from traditional wood products, we shifted with them, expanding our product lines and rebuilding our manufacturing capabilities to match where the industry was heading. In 2011, we acquired a high-quality aluminum railing line, and shortly after that, a state-of-the-art aluminum manufacturing operation of our own. That allowed us to move beyond wood into aluminum, glass, and eventually cable railing systems, giving us a materials range that few manufacturers in our category can match.

Building the Commercial and Multifamily Division

As our aluminum capabilities matured, we saw an opportunity that our wood-era business had never served well: the unique demands of commercial and multifamily construction. So we created a separate division built specifically around that market, and we brought in some of the industry’s most experienced people to run it: engineers and designers who understood building code compliance, ADA requirements, and the realities of specifying railings at scale across apartment, condo, and senior living projects rather than one deck at a time.

That decision is the reason Vista Architectural exists as its own brand today. We design and manufacture glass railing systems, precision factory-welded picket railings, custom aluminum railings that combine glass, picket, and Juliet configurations, bolt-on balconies, custom privacy screens, stair and hand railings, guardrails, and wheelchair ramp railings, all engineered to meet building code and safety standards from the start rather than retrofitted to pass them.

Milestones in Our Growth

Our history is easiest to see as a timeline rather than a single story, so here is how we got from a woodturning plant to where we stand now:

Aluminum Picket Railings

  • 1974: Vista Railing Systems Inc. opens as a wood remanufacturing and woodturning plant and becomes the first in the industry to earn FSC certification.
  • Following years: We expand our product lines and manufacturing capabilities as market demand shifts, laying the groundwork for our move into metal and glass.
  • 2011: We acquire a high-quality aluminum railing line, then a dedicated aluminum manufacturing operation, opening the door to glass and cable railing systems as well.
  • Division launch: We form a separate commercial and multifamily division, staffed by experienced engineers and designers focused on code-compliant, design-built railing solutions for larger-scale projects.
  • Today: Operating as Vista Architectural, we design, manufacture, and ship railing systems to commercial and multifamily projects across North America.

Vista Architectural Today

We still apply the same principle that carried us from woodturning to aluminum: simplicity. We design every system to be straightforward to specify, install, and live with for decades, whether that is a glass railing system for a waterfront condo tower or a run of factory-welded picket railing for a senior living community. We manufacture in-house, we test to the standards our commercial and multifamily clients need to meet, and we back every product with a team that has spent years, not months, learning this industry.
